Anyways.
The Principals of 2D Design was very to the point about shapes and elements of design. I couldn't really formulate an opinion. The reading reminded me of design and color class in high school.. good times. I kinda disagreed with the author's strategy of only relying on "his enquiring mind", i think emotion and intuition should pay a big part in our decision making because we are humans with emotions designing for human with emotions. I liked the visuals in Design Basic. (^_^) Pictures make things easier to understand. I loved how the author dismisses the "creative process" and suggests to simply think, look, and do instead. That's what I've been doing all along and it's nice to know it's ok to go with an unsophisticated approach. Architecture: Form, Space, and Order was informative. I noticed a bit of math in it. Scary. I don't get the Golden Section.
I don't know. I'm bad with responses. =\
I'll get better though.
i responded before saturday midnight! YAY..yeah i'm supposed to post it on class blog aren't I?

Hello all.
My name is Linda and I am currently in the Design and Technology major at Parsons.
...but you all already knew that.
I've been in New York City forever. I was born in Manhattan, moved to Queens when I was 5, went to high school in Brooklyn, and now I'm back where I started.
I went to Brooklyn Technical High School; not by choice, but because it was the only option i had.
We were to choose a major when junior year came around, and I chose the closest thing they had to a fine arts major, which was product design. The only other option was Media but I decided against it because media students did a lot of computer/web based stuff. I DO NOT LIKE COMPUTERS...well they don't like me, it was better for me to stay away.
Little did I know, Product design was also a digital nightmare for me. It started out fine at first: color and design, sketching, and at some point we had a painting assignment! <3 That bliss only lasted for half of junior year. Then we were taught to use InDesign and Illustrator. My final project was a 30-second animation that took months to make. And NO, I do NOT remember how I did it. My teacher was awesome though.
I intended to go into the foundation program at Parsons, but I don't know what happened, I somehow ended up in DT. Yeah, when the admissons lady showed me my application for proof, it says DT is what I put down, but the thing was in text, from the INTERNET, not my handwriting. So maybe I didn't screw myself over. I also like to add that I freaked out the office cause I started sobbing in front of strangers over my misfortune -that's how much computers scare me.
It's ok though, I decided maybe it won't be so bad to learn a bit about this stuff. The world gets more digital everyday. (they also can't keep me in DT forever >:O)
I'm a PC user, and I'm used to it. I need a laptop, and despite university recommendations, I don't want a macbook.
I've always been a rebel ;)
I really want to major in fashion design -it's the only reason I'm in Parsons anyway. My mum supports a bit, my dad doesn't care he's just glad I got into college, everyone else (loud obnoxious aunt and grandmother) is still trying to persuade me into accounting/business. Fat chance though, I hate math. Math hates me too.
I am really excited about fashion design :being at Parsons, even though i'm not in the program (..yet), excites me because I am aware of the alumni that became amazing fashion designers. My favorite from Parsons is Anna Sui.
Oh and I do NOT watch Project Runway.
My favorite designers are John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, and the girls behind Jovovich-Hawk: @ss-kicking Milla Jovovich from the Resident Evil movies and Carmen Hawk.
John Galliano is just plain RAD. He's currently the head designer for Christian Dior and of course has his own line. his draping skills are immense. I'm especially fond of his couture lines for Dior because they're theatrical and inspiring.

vivienne westwood rocks because she exposed punk rock to the fashion industry and is a civil rights activist. her style is a fushion of punk and traditional british design. she's also hot for a 66 year old...
